Haight-Ashbury Shingle Style
Haight Ashbury, San Francisco
This new home is a contemporary expression of regional Shingle Style architecture exemplified by Bernard Maybeck and Ernest Coxhead in the early 20th Century. Situated on a narrow storybook street in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury, its original, nondescript 1,000 square foot cottage sat vacant for decades, an outlier among its many elegant neighbors. In proposing its replacement, we did a thorough character study of the neighborhood to design a home that blends into the period context of the block, bridges past and future, and feels appropriate (expected completion late 2024).
